AVENEL (Georges, vicomte d'). - Lot 6
AVENEL (Georges, vicomte d'). Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1855 - died in 1939. French historian and economist. Author of the important Histoire économique de la propriété, des salaires, des denrées et de tous les prix en général, depuis l'an 1200 jusqu'en l'an 1800. Winner of two Rossi prizes. Autograph letter signed "Vte G. d'Avenel", addressed to Léon Labbé. Orne, August 10, 1912. 4 pages in-8. Retained envelope. Interesting letter of economic and corporate intervention. Avenel requests the support of Senator Léon Labbé to hasten the outcome of a petition concerning a case affecting cider manufacturers, of which he is himself a member. The author describes the legal proceedings brought against these producers, accused of using colorants and preservatives, and highlights the tensions with winegrowers in the Midi region, who intend to deny ciders certain privileges granted to wines. Avenel insists on the importance of the issue, despite his apparent modesty. Introducing himself as former president of the Chambre syndicale des cidres de l'Ouest, he solicits his correspondent's support before forwarding the petition to the Minister of Agriculture, illustrating the economic and regulatory stakes of regional production at the beginning of the 20th century. Autograph signature.
