ANDRIEUX, François - Lot 4
ANDRIEUX, François (Strasbourg, 1759 - Paris, 1833) Man of letters, playwright and poet, member then perpetual secretary of the Académie française, professor at the Collège de France, an important figure in literary life under the Empire and Restoration. L.A.S. "Andrieux" to Monsieur Labrouste Paris, December 23, 1832 1 page in-8, brown ink, on printed letterhead of the Institut de France - Académie française, with beautiful allegorical vignette, autograph address on verso and remainder of red wax seal. Beautiful letter in which François Andrieux responds to a request concerning Greek theater: "I would very much like to be able to do what Mr. Taschereau asks; these few pages on Greek theater..." He points out that the text in question has already been published in the Revue encyclopédique, in several successive articles. The letter is of definite literary interest, testifying to Andrieux's intellectual and editorial activity in the last years of his life. Also of interest is the relationship with the addressee, probably Alexandre Labrouste, brother of the famous architect Henri Labrouste. Very good condition. Elegantly presented document with strong decorative appeal.
