Professor Bell - Vol. 4: Promenade des Anglaises. - Lot 139
Professor Bell - Vol. 4: Promenade des Anglaises.
Delcourt, 2003. In-4 hardback, boards illustrated in color.
First edition of this album from the series created by Joann Sfar, here illustrated by Tanquerelle. The story follows the adventures of Professor Bell, a surgeon inspired by Joseph Bell (Conan Doyle's mentor), in a universe where medicine rubs shoulders with the fantastic and esoteric. In this volume, the action moves to the Côte d'Azur, blending Victorian elegance, spectral apparitions and absurdist humor.
Tanquerelle's graphic style harmonizes perfectly with Sfar's abundant imagination, offering plates that are both detailed and full of character. This series is emblematic of the French comics revival of the 2000s, playing with classic literary genres to reinvent them.
