Les Cons, ça ose tout.
Le Lombard, 2006. In-4 hardback, plates illustrated in color.
First edition of this album, whose title pays tribute to Michel Audiard's famous line in Les Tontons Flingueurs. Co-written by Georges Lautner himself (director of the cult film) and Philippe Chanoinat, this book features the Crapone brothers, a group of extremely stupid hoodlums whose criminal schemes systematically turn into disasters.
Philippe Castaza's dynamic, expressive drawing perfectly serves this story, which is full of nods to Lautner's films and the spirit of French crime comedies of the '60s. From an attack on a "yellow coin" train to the kidnapping of a TV star, the album is a festival of gags and absurd situations, carried along by a dialogue verve that smacks of cinematic heritage.
