Asterix - The Soothsayer. - Lot 41
Asterix - The Soothsayer. GOSCINNY - UDERZO Asterix - The Soothsayer. Dargaud, 1992. In-4 hardback, boards illustrated in color. 1992 reprint of this nineteenth Asterix adventure album. Taking advantage of a storm, a charlatan posing as a soothsayer settles in the village and manipulates the credulity of the Gauls, with the exception of Asterix. This is one of Goscinny's finest scripts, a veritable satire of superstition and human stupidity, while Uderzo masterfully plays with shadows and nocturnal atmospheres. Uderzo's drawing, at the peak of his powers, lends the diviner's character a disquieting presence that contrasts with the series' usual humor. A cult album that explores the psychological flaws of the famous little village. Copy note: Please note that there is an inconsistency in the photos provided: the justification page (mentioning Asterix in Brittany and ISBN 2-205-00185-X) does not correspond to the album shown on the cover (Le Devin). Justification page (theoretical for this album): © DARGAUD EDITEUR 1972. Legal deposit: October 1992 (according to back cover). ISBN 2-205-00650-9 (on second plate). Printed in France by Partenaires. Second plate: Obelix carrying a menhir listing the "Déjà parus" titles, stopping at Asterix in Belgium. Descriptive condition: Solid boards. Boards clean, despite slight wear to corners and edges. A few discreet handling marks on the varnish of the first cover. Perfectly sound interior, with no erasures or tears. A fine reading copy of this Dargaud catalog classic. A monument to Franco-Belgian comics.
