GOSCINNY - UDERZO
Asterix - The Soothsayer.
Dargaud, 1992. In-4 hardback, boards illustrated in color.
1992 reprint of this nineteenth Asterix adventure album. Taking advantage of a storm, a charlatan posing as a soothsayer settles in the village and manipulates the credulity of the Gauls, with the exception of Asterix. This is one of Goscinny's finest scripts, a veritable satire of superstition and human stupidity, while Uderzo masterfully plays with shadows and nocturnal atmospheres.
Uderzo's drawing, at the peak of his powers, lends the diviner's character a disquieting presence that contrasts with the series' usual humor. A cult album that explores the psychological flaws of the famous little village.
