The Asterix Odyssey. - Lot 40
The Asterix Odyssey. ALBERT UDERZO The Asterix Odyssey. Les Éditions Albert René, 1991. In-4 hardback, boards illustrated in color. Twenty-sixth album in the series, and the second produced by Albert Uderzo alone after the death of René Goscinny. The story takes Asterix and Obelix to the Middle East in search of rock oil (petroleum), an essential ingredient in the magic potion. Uderzo has written a vibrant tribute to his late friend, combining epic adventure, humor and meticulous documentation of desert landscapes. Uderzo's liberated line shows impressive technical virtuosity, particularly in the camel-riding scenes. The album is also famous for the introduction of the Zérozérosix character, a parody of James Bond in the guise of Sean Connery. Copy note: Please note that the photos provided present a major inconsistency: the justification page (mentioning a 1972 Dargaud copyright and ISBN 2-205-00650-9) belongs to the album Le Devin. It has probably been mistakenly photographed instead of the one in the book shown. Justification page (theoretical for this album) : © 1981 - Albert René / Goscinny-Uderzo. Legal deposit: 1991 (depending on print run). ISBN 2-86497-004-X (on second plate). Second plate: Obélix sculptant un menhir (Obelix carving a menhir) lists the titles "Déjà parus" (already published) by Éditions Albert René, stopping at La Rose et le Glaive (published in 1991). Descriptive condition: Solid boards. Boards clean, despite some rubbing at corners and minor handling marks on white varnish. The interior is sound, complete and free of erasures. A very decent collector's copy of this pivotal title of the Uderzo era. A humorous voyage of initiation to the heart of the ancient Orient.
