HILGERS A PARIS. FIREPLACE SET. Fireplace set consisting of : A columned portico clock in white marble and gilt bronze, the Dial signed "Hilgers à Paris". H: 49 cm A pair of four-light candelabras, one central, in white marble and gilt bronze, decorated with masks, chains and acanthus flowers. H: 46 cm France, Late 18th century Mechanism to be revised, one bronze and one clock leg to be refixed, accident to the dial, age and marble wear. The collections of the Petit Palais include a clock by the Horloger Hilgers, inventory number ODUT1421, from the Dutuit collection. A pocket watch is also in the Louvre's collections under number OA 8565. Cornelius and Joseph Hilgers were silversmiths in Paris from the mid-18th century, and their names can still be found on Empire clocks.
