19th century school, after Giovanni CONCA (c.1690-1771) or S - Lot 58
19th century school, after Giovanni CONCA (c.1690-1771) or Sebastiano CONCA (1680-1764) Allegory of Modesty or Allegory of Vigilance Oil on canvas H_62.2 cm W_50.5 cm Faded, slight dents Our painting is based on the composition of "L'allégorie de la modestie" (also known as "Allegory of Vigilance"), which has been kept at the Académie de Saint-Luc in Rome since 1735. Although deposited at the Academy by Giovanni Conca (c.1690-1771), it is possible that his cousin and master Sebastiano Conca (1680-1764) was the real author. Another version was sold in London by Bonhams on April 30, 2014 (lot 208, sold for £21,250). Expert: Cabinet Artéon
