Renowned for the excellence of his technique and his ability to execute high-quality paintings in a matter of hours, the artist received many important commissions, his works being particularly prized by princes and wealthy collectors. However, beset by difficulties, he eventually sank into debt and was unable to fulfill his last commissions. Our work testifies to his technical skill; the use of large flat tones of blue in the sky, combined with subtly controlled browns, creates contrasts characteristic of the Baroque aesthetic of the late 17th century.
