Italian school of the 17th century - Lot 38
Italian school of the 17th century Saint Agostino striking down the heretic Oil on canvas H_123 cm W_97.5 cm Faded, restoration report 2005. Our painting takes up a subject dear to Italian Baroque painting of the 17th century. It contrasts good and evil in the person of Saint Agostino, who strikes down the heretic. Our large-format painting was probably intended for a private chapel or as a gift to the church. The inscription on the right reads "Vera ecclesia fidei columna" meaning: the true church is the column of faith. Expert: Cabinet Artéon
