JEAN COCTEAU (1889-1963) - Lot 11
JEAN COCTEAU (1889-1963) Autograph letter with original drawing. Paris, undated (probably 1930-1940). 1 page in-4 on headed paper 61, rue des Saints-Pères, folded. Autograph bill attributable to Jean Cocteau, accompanied by an original ink drawing of two stylized hands, a recurring motif characteristic of the artist's graphic vocabulary. The very brief text is similar to a note of friendship addressed to a correspondent named Bernard, in which the author evokes the affectionate ties that unite them. The sheet bears the printed letterhead of Cocteau's Paris address 61, rue des Saints-Pères, where he stayed for part of his career. The drawing, executed directly on the letter, is the most remarkable element of the piece: the linear hands, treated with a supple, continuous stroke in black ink, belong to Cocteau's most emblematic graphic motifs, frequently encountered in his dedications and correspondences.
