BATEM (Luc COLIN dit)
Marsupilami - JETTA VW" - pencil on paper
Luc Collin, known as Batem, born on April 6, 1960 in Kamina (Belgian Congo), is a Belgian cartoonist and scriptwriter with a passion for caricature. In 1986, he joined the editorial team of La nouvelle gazette, a Charleroi daily in need of a cartoonist. Once again, Leonardo acted as intermediary... But the mischievous Marsupilami, as we all know, decided to return to his life that same year. It was at this time that Jean-François Moyersoen convinced Franquin to entrust the Marsupilami to a new publishing structure - "Marsu Productions" - which would launch a series dedicated to the fabulous animal. Franquin, who hadn't forgotten Luc Collin's work at the time of SEPP, offered to draw the series. At first, Luc thought it was a hoax!
In 1987 - in just 4 months! - the new Marsupilami album, entitled La queue du Marsupilami, was completed. The script was by Greg, the colors by Vittorio Leonardo and the storyboard by Franquin. For the first time in his life, Luc Collin uses the pseudonym "Batem" ("Baptism"), in memory of a nickname given to him during his studies at Saint-Luc... La queue du Marsupilami sells several hundred thousand copies. The love affair between the Palombian creature and readers never fades.
