NICK Gaston (PETRELLI), painter and engraver, born in 1882 in Champagne le Vieux (Haute- Loire). Painter, draughtsman and engraver. Grand-nephew of Colomba Carabelli. At the 1927 Salon des Artistes Indépendants, he submitted an etching Vieille maison à Corte and drawings depicting Corsica. In 1944, he exhibited a painting entitled Porte à Bonifacio. In 1927, he produced 75 engravings depicting scenes of Corsican life (Berger corse, Vocératrice, Vers la fontaine, Veille de Noël). He came to Paris to study art, and in the 1920s began to publish a number of works illustrated by him: Verlaine, Maupassant, Mérimée, and others. He changed his name during and after the war. The reasons why he decided to change his name remain obscure. Exhibited at Artistes Occitans Indépendants: Catalog : XVe salon du 30 septembre au 31 octobre 1950 Palais des Arts Toulouse.
