Born into a mining family, he became famous for his large-scale abstract sculptures in bronze and carved marble. Henry Moore was inspired by both the classical sculpture of the great masters and the surrealism of the 1920s. He was fascinated by Mayan figures and the art of Mesoamerican cultures.
