Huysmans and Bloy recommended Albert Savine (1859-1927) as the successor to Léon Vanier. A contract was signed with Savine on September 15, 1888, for the publication of Bonheur and Histoires comme ça. Eventually, having fallen out with his new publisher over Cazals' alleged collaboration on Histoires comme ça, Verlaine returned in shame to his faithful Vanier, with whom he was reconciled, thus closing the "Savine episode" once and for all.
