ROUAULT (Georges). - Lot 194
ROUAULT (Georges).
Born in Paris. 1871-1958. Painter, draughtsman and engraver. L.A.S. "G. Rouault" and "G R" to Monsieur Etienne de Jouvencel. Paris, s.d. 2 pages in-12 square. Address, stamps and postmarks (slightly missing lower left corner due to opening of letter).
Rouault is visibly recovering from health problems: ...I knew in principle and from my return the horror... of being stuck, but I did not foresee being so flattened and bruised... begins Rouault, for whom the only way to avoid postponing his meeting with his correspondent is to set it for ...an evening around 7 p.m. on Tuesday - a time when I sometimes breathe a little easier... And he adds on p.-s. ...I have fixed dates for the work to be delivered, and I have just given a series, not without difficulty, which I have disturbed too often (...). Please don't forget to let me know about Quiberon, so that I can take my measurements...Etienne de Jouvencel was a patron of the arts who collected modern paintings. He befriended Rouault, who became his daughter's godfather.
