ROMAINS (Louis Farigoule, known as Jules) - Lot 192
ROMAINS (Louis Farigoule, known as Jules)
Born in Saint-Julien Chapteuil (Haute-Loire). 1885-1972. French writer, philosopher, poet and playwright. Member of the Académie française. L.A.S. "Jules Romains" to "Cher ami". S.l. February 3, n.d. 4 pp. in-8.
...I have been quite seriously ill... explains Jules Romains, who belatedly returns the treatises to him, before inquiring: ...Have you read Le Trouhadec, and what do you think of it? (...) If Tronche [Jean Gustave Tronche, commercial administrator of the NRF from 1912 to 1922] has not yet sent me the monthly mailing, I fear that his check will not reach me in time. (...) I have received a few copies of Le Bourg and a copy of Le Voyage. I think the edition is very good, but I'm frightened by the thinness of the paper. It feels like a tiny booklet. It's a pity you couldn't get paper as thick as the Vers de circonstance. Aren't you afraid it might put off the buyer? Tronche hadn't yet spoken to me about serving these 2 books. If he had something urgent to tell me, would you ask him to write to me right away? He ends his letter with ...two commissions. André M. de Poncheville, (...) editor of the Télégramme, complains that he is not served any N.R.F. books. He would like to mention them in his columns. The young Louis Brauquier [Louis Brauquier (1900-1976), poet, writer and painter] has asked me to draw your attention to a manuscript entitled "Et l'au-delà de Suez", which I do not know. Well, that's that. I've also heard that the booksellers in Algiers have replied that Cromedeyre is out of print. That's unlikely. Le Trouhadec is the main character in a comic work by Jules Romains: Monsieur Le Trouhadec saisi par la débauche, comédie en cinq actes (1924).Cromedeyre-le-Vieil is a play in five acts by Jules Romains (1920).
