QUENEAU (Raymond). - Lot 187
QUENEAU (Raymond).
Born in Le Havre. 1903-1976. Novelist, poet, playwright, co-founder of the Oulipo literary group. L.A.S. "R Queneau" and "RQ" to "Cher Monsieur". S.l., October 26, 1968. 1 page in-4. Éditions Gallimard letterhead.
Queneau intervenes as publishing director: ...Rereading on proof your excellent contribution to the Encyclopédie de la Pléiade, I wonder whether on p. 70, line 6, it would not be possible for you to add the name of Rozsda alongside those of Hantaï, Kallos and Istrati among the Hungarian painters who have recently come to Paris. Of course I don't want to influence your judgment, I'd be careful! But perhaps it's an oversight on your part... He recommends in his postscript: ...Wouldn't Dubuffet's works deserve to appear in the Bibliography?...Simon Hantaï (1922-2008), Paul Kallos (1928-2001), Endre Rozsda (1913-1999), Alexandre Istrati (1915-1991) belong to this group of Eastern European artists who emigrated to Paris in the 1950s, fleeing the Communist dictatorship (Alexandre Istrati is not Hungarian, but Romanian).
