LEFEBVRE (François-Joseph). - Lot 143
LEFEBVRE (François-Joseph).
Born in Rouffach (Haut-Rhin). 1755-1820. Marshal of the Empire in 1804. Duke of Danzig in 1807. Married Catherine Hübscher, a laundress, known to posterity as Madame Sans-Gêne. L.A.S. "le Mal duc de Danzig" to "Mon cher ami". S.l., November 18, 1813. 2 pages in-4. Remains of mitered mount.
Without a reply from his friend, Marshal Lefebvre is worried: the latter was to travel to Mainz, then Frankfurt, and if need be to Coblentz, in order to see for himself what the situation was. Coblentz, to check on the progress of his claim against Mr. and Mrs. de Bray. He therefore summarizes the terms of his last letter, insisting that he is prepared to pay all expenses himself....Votre silence me désespère au sujet de la lettre que j'ai eu l'honneur de vous adresser a Mayence quelques jours après votre départ de Paris. In which I asked you [...] to go to Frankfurt to see MMrs de Nouhlens, and if necessary to Coblentz to find out at last what has happened to my claim against Mr and Madame de Bray. I authorized you in the same letter to make sacrifices, and that I would pay you, as is only fair, all the expenses you will incur on this trip... He warned him in the same letter that he had received no result from his approach to MMrs de Nouhlens. ...I am going to write to them again by this same letter in which I strongly urge them to tell me the truth about their lawyer's conduct [...] because I am really worried, because one does not lose such a large sum of money lightly...
