FOERSTER (Joseph Bohuslav). - Lot 96
FOERSTER (Joseph Bohuslav). 1859-1951. Czech composer and music critic. Friend of Gustav Malher. Musical manuscript for piano A.S. three times "Jos. B. Foerster", entitled "Hudba vecera" [Evening music]. S.l.n.d. 7 pp. 1/3 in-folio under cover with signed autograph dedication. This musical score, Hudba veèera, composes lopus 79 of the composer's piano pieces and dates from 1904. Its tempo is indicated...Andante, ma col molta passione...The score was dedicated (in Czech) in 1947; it contains numerous corrections in pencil: basses added, slurs deleted, doubling of certain chords. It seems that the composer had considered significantly modifying a few bars at the end, which are found at the end of the score, again in pencil. A composer as well as a teacher and writer, J.B. Foester taught at the Hamburg Conservatory, where he became acquainted with Gustav Mahler, then director of the Hamburg Opera, and with whom he forged a close friendship.
