Vienna, February 27, 1837. 1 p. in-8. Address. Provenance: collection of pianist Alfred Cortot. In English. BEAUTIFUL AND VERY RARE AUTOGRAPH LETTER FROM THE ENGLISH PIANIST J.-B. CRAMER Cramer who is in Vienna, asks his friends and associates Robert Addison and Thomas Frederick Beale, to kindly welcome Carl Czerny and Conrad Graf during their stay in London and introduce them to the "Misses Broadwood": ...The bearer of this note is M Czerny who, accompanied by his friend M. Graf, one of Vienna's leading forte piano makers, after visiting Paris proposes to extend his journey to London and stay there, I consider you good enough to introduce them to my excellent friends the Misses Broadwood and lavish any marks of kindness you may be disposed to show them during their short stay in London...Cramer established himself as one of the most gifted pianists of his generation during his tour of England and continental Europe from 1788 to 1791. Back in England, he pursued a career as a pianist. In 1824 he founded the music publishing house Cramer & Co in partnership with Robert Addison and Thomas Frederick Beale. The company became known as Cramer, Addison & Beale. Carl Czerny (1791-1857), mentioned in the letter, was an Austrian composer and pianist, his friend Conrad Graf (1782-1851) an Austrian-German piano maker. His pianos were used by Beethoven, Chopin and Clara Schumann, among others.
