Colette reacts to Pierre Benoit's elevation to the rank of Commandeur de la Légion d'Honneur: ...I am fortunate not to secrete any bitterness. Otherwise, the current promotion would make me turn yellow to remain without a tie, while young colleagues are burning the midnight oil. I could always send my congratulations to my youngest son Pierre Benoît (sic). Still... President of the Société des gens de lettres from 1929 to 1930, Pierre Benoit was elevated to the rank of Commander of the Légion d'honneur, and elected to the Académie française on June 11, 1931, in Georges de Porto-Riche's seat. He was received on November 24, 1932 by Henri de Régnier.
