BERNARD (Claude). - Lot 50
BERNARD (Claude).
Born in Saint-Julien. 1813-1878. French physician and physiologist, known for the study of Claude Bernard-Horner syndrome. L.A.S. "Claude Bernard" to Monsieur Gréhaut. St Julien, Sunday, November 15, 1868. 1 p. 1/2 in-8.
A very rare letter. In a hasty reply to his correspondent's letter, Claude Bernard informs him that he agrees...to whatever Mr. le Doyen can do for us and for you...He continues...It's always a beginning. I will see, in Paris, the observations that I will have to present in the interest of French physiology, which seems to me to be still a long way from German installations; on this subject I have all my reservations...Claude Bernard concludes his letter by specifying...I am leaving tomorrow morning, Monday, and I will be in Paris tomorrow evening. Come and see me on Tuesday or Wednesday...Considered the founder of experimental medicine, Claude Bernard was also elected to the Académie Française in 1868 and awarded the Copley Medal in 1876.
