BERLIOZ (Hector). - Lot 49
BERLIOZ (Hector). Born in Côte-Saint-André (Isère). 1803-1869. Autograph letter Signed "H. Berlioz" to "Mon cher Monsieur Taylor" [Baron Taylor]. Paris, March 4 (no date). Berlioz is commissioned by Franz Liszt. Berlioz is busy before his departure for Belgium ...So I cannot go to see you about the commission Liszt has given me. It would be to obtain for him the booklets, regulations and documents of all kinds relating to the organization of our artists' societies. Founded in 1843 and chaired by Baron Taylor (1789-1879), the Association des Artistes Musiciens was set up to improve the social status of musicians, notably through a pension and relief fund, and to promote the art of music. Bringing together several thousand members throughout France and abroad, it organizes various events, including numerous concerts, to feed its fund, and succeeds in federating the actions of musical artists in a fraternal spirit of mutual aid. Managed by a committee of eminent personalities (Berlioz, Liszt, Meyerbeer, Auber, Thalberg, Zimmerman, Herz, Érard, etc.), the association left an impressive archive, stretching back to 1968.
