BERG (Alban). - Lot 44
BERG (Alban). Born in Vienna (Austria). 1885-1935. Austrian composer. Pupil of Schoenberg. Postcard to his pupil Gottfried Kassowitz (in Vienna). June 27 [1919]. Address, stamps and postmark. Stamped "Express". In German. Berg, who is absent from Vienna, informs his pupil that Webern is urging him to send his quartet to Feist. Webern has specified that the complete score with parts for each instrument must be sent. The composer asks Kassowitz to call his maid at the Lebertz home; after giving him the address, he advises him to arrange a meeting with the maid and to go to his home, where he can retrieve the score from the piano [...]. All this is tedious and complicated, but it is urgent, Berg repeats, to give the score to Feist so that he can work on it for the next season, together with those by Schönberg (in D minor), Webern, Stravinsky, Reger (with piano), Ravel and Bartok....Kassowitz Gottfried. 1897-1969. Conductor, music teacher. He studied privately with Alban Berg and was in the inner circle of the founders of the Vienna School.
