ANDRY (Charles Louis François) - Lot 19
ANDRY (Charles Louis François)
Born in Paris. 1741-1829. Hospital physician, doctor-regent of the Faculty of Paris, he was one of the first members of the Royal Society of Medicine. L.A.S. "Andrÿ Médecin" to "Monsieur Le Baron".
S.l., April 29, 1822. 1 page quarto. Very fine watermarked double sheet (F. Johannot), one side with the crowned Imperial Eagle, and the other with the profile of NAPOLÉON, EMPEROR OF THE FRENCH AND KING OF ITALY.
Dr. Andry recommends Monsieur Trouchen for appointment as pharmacist to the Charité Administration. He thought that ...his knowledge, his probity, his accuracy in the preparation of medicines, could merit him special attention from Messieurs les Administrateurs...A doctor famous for his charity (he gave a tenth of his income to the poor every year), a great propagator of vaccinia, Andry dealt with rabies and animal magnetism. It should be noted that, at the date of this letter, the Emperor was dead, and the use of this watermarked paper certainly reveals a great admiration for Napoleon 1st.
