ADELON (Nicolas, Philibert). - Lot 11
ADELON (Nicolas, Philibert).
Born in Dijon. 1782-1862. French physician. Apostille A.S. "Ad." and "Adelon" on a document signed by Doctor Duran, Saint-Girons, May 24, 1829. 3 pp. in-4.
Here is a case of ...extraordinary birth... He was born in the arrondt. of St Girons, Canton d'Oust, on May 13, an astonishing child with two heads, four arms and almost two breasts, all very well conformed. He died at birth...Following is a complete anatomical description of this child, with the reflections that it entails....While it is well known that this phenomenon of doubled limbs in a fœtus, has been seen other times and even to a more considerable degree; however these examples are so extraordinarily rare, and this one is, so to speak, so finished in its execution, that we considered it a duty to make it known... Adelon specified that this case was ...presented to the Academy on November 17, 1829...
