MATEO SANTOS (XX CENTURY) & BADIA VILATO (1914-2012) - Lot 159
MATEO SANTOS (XX CENTURY) & BADIA VILATO (1914-2012) "Images of Franco's Spain, Paris, Alliance Nationale des Forces Démocratique d'Espagne/Editions de la Calanque, June 30, 1947, 36 pages and 12 lithographed color plates, titled serpents, leaves in illustrated cover. First edition, unique edition of 1000 copies. One of 25 copies on white vellum (no. 12). Spanish poster artist Badia-Vilato worked for the CNT (Confédération National du Travail) and FAI (Fédération Anarchiste Ibérique) during the civil war, before going into exile in France and South America. Set against a text printed in three languages - Spanish, French and English - by filmmaker Mateo Santos, Badia-Vilato's brightly colored lithographs are reminiscent of Surrealist works. A fine copy.
