SEVRES - SERVICES D'APPARAT DU ROI LOUIS-PHILIPPE POUR LE PA - Lot 30
SEVRES - SERVICES D'APPARAT DU ROI LOUIS-PHILIPPE POUR LE PAVILLON DE BRETEUIL DU CHATEAU DE SAINT CLOUD.
Lobed-edged circular plate in white porcelain, richly decorated on the rim with bouquets of roses set off by stylized gilded cartouches. The rim of the basin is underlined by a gilded border and its center is decorated with an arabesque rosette. Red mark "Pavillon de Breteuil", gold mark of the Sèvres factory 1847, green mark under crowned enamel "SV.LP.46."; painter's signature in red "AB", molder's mark 1846.
Diameter 23.4 cm, H 2.5 cm.
This service was commissioned by King Louis-Philippe for the Pavillon de Breteuil on June 26, 1846, and delivered in two stages in 1847.
The pavilion, located in the grounds of the Château de Saint-Cloud, was the residence of the Count de Montalivet, Intendant General of the Civil List, several times Minister of the Interior and a close friend of the King, between 1842 and 1848. This service, described as "white background, colored bear groups", is the only polylobed service on the King's table, reminiscent of the Louis XV services at Sèvres.
