Mint condition. Les Chants de Maldoror shine with incomparable brilliance in the eyes of the greatest artists of the twentieth century, without losing their mystery: the mystery of an author, the mystery of a work which, until now, had never been the subject of an ensemble interpretation. This is what Liliane Durand-Dessert has attempted to do, song by song, stanza by stanza, in order to show that, contrary to certain critical developments, Les Chants de Maldoror is neither madness nor a hoax, and even less a formal play on language: an expression of a to- tale revelation, on the edge of human limits, it is part of the great Western initiatory tradition. Explaining a number of profound influences in the text, notably biblical, and uncovering new sources, Liliane DURAND-DESSERT shows the total coherence and prophetic dimension of this Ducassian passion for man, for the universe and for God: Lautréamont remembers, in his body, his animal ancestry and his divine ancestry, and reconciles them to give birth, at the end of this Holy War, to a new man. The first edition of this work, printed on ivory Grain de Rives paper, is presented in sheets, in a large full-canvas slipcase, limited to two hundred and forty numbered copies, including the thirty-two original works executed for this edition. Two hundred and forty copies were printed on Grain de Rives ivoire, all numbered, and including thirty-two hors-texte plates. Edited by the Presses Universitaires de Nancy, this original edition was completed in September nineteen hundred and eighty-eight on the Presses de l'Imprimerie Bialec in Nancy. ref : Bob Calle, p. 126 (Boltanski); Richter Künstlerbücher 1966-2021 p.111-114; L'art au futur antérieur, l'engagement d'une galerie: Liliane et Michel Durand-Dessert 1975 / 2004, Actes Sud 2004, reproduced full page.
