JEAN-JULES ANTOINE (KNOWN AS TONY) TOLLET (1857-1953) Portrait of a seated woman in a blue dress Oil on canvas, signed on the left Oil on canvas, signed on the left H 124 x W 97 cm - H 48 7/8 x W 38 1/4 in A painter from Lyon, Tony Tollet frequented the Parisian studios of Cabanel, Merson and Maignan in 1879 after winning the Paris prize, and became a close friend of the Flandrin family. He returned to Lyon in 1889 and taught drawing at the municipal school of Guillotière, then at the Petit Collège. He became honorary director of the municipal drawing classes of Lyon, honorary president of the Lyon Society of Fine Arts, former president of the Academy of Sciences, Belles-Lettres and Arts of Lyon, president of the Society for the Relief of Lyon Artists and founding president of the Union of Art Societies of Lyon.
