ALEXANDRE JEAN COUDER (1808-1879) "Portrait of a pianist in an interior with a red curtain", Oil on canvas, signed lower right. In a large period wood and gilded stucco frame. 74 x 60 cm He entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts on November 6, 1824, and became a pupil of Gros. After first working in sculpture and engraving, he debuted at the Salon in 1833 and exhibited until 1868. In 1836, he was awarded the médaille de troisième classe, and on August 12, 1853, the croix de chevalier de la Légion d'honneur. He devoted himself to all genres, particularly still life, flowers and fruit." (Bénézit 1976, III, 214).
