SEVRES. CAPRAIRE SERVICE. EMPIRE PERIOD. SEVRES. CAPRAIRE SERVICE. Inkwell in blue porcelain with gilded decoration of a capraire frieze and foliage on the inside. It is composed of three parts. -Main part: diam. 16 cm, H 5.8 cm; Manufacture Impériale de Sèvres, 1809, gilder's signature RM (crack under the base). -Central inkwell, 3 slots for nibs, diam. 7.3 cm H 4.1 cm; Manufacture Impériale de Sèvres, 1809. -Spare inkwell, 3 nib compartments, this one Louis-Philippe period, with its small cover, Sèvres mark partly faded, diam. 7.3 ; H 5.1cm (restorations on this third piece at the level of the nib holders). The "capraire" service, named after its decorative motifs, appeared during the First Empire, around 1808. It was subsequently used for royal and imperial services. It is still used today to serve the presidential table at the Elysée Palace.
