SEVRES. SERVICE CAPRAIRE DU ROI LOUIS-PHILIPPE POUR LE CHÂTEAU DES TUILERIES. Cup-shaped hard porcelain teacup, known as 1ère grandeur, decorated with a frieze of gilded capraires on a midnight-blue ground, white interior. For the cup: Sèvres mark in blue 1843, Château des Tuileries mark in red, gilder's signature 1843, mark on rim "D.27 Av.37". For the saucer: Sèvres mark in blue 1846, gilder's signature 1846, molder's mark 1844. Saucer diam. 13.5 cm, H 3 cm. Cup diameter without handle: 9.3 cm, H 5 cm. The "capraire" service, named for its decorative motifs, appeared during the First Empire, around 1808. It was subsequently used for royal and imperial services. It is still used today to serve the presidential table at the Elysée Palace.
