SEVRES. CAPRAIRE SERVICE FOR NAPOLEON III'S TABLE Baluster-shaped milk jug with handle and flared spout in hard porcelain with a midnight-blue ground and gilded foliage frieze decoration of capraires. The base is decorated with laurel leaves. Sèvres mark under the base in red letters N under an imperial crown and dated (18)62, manufacturing mark in green: 1848 "S.48." H 15 cm The "capraire" service, named after its decorative motifs, appeared during the First Empire, around 1808. It was subsequently used for royal and imperial services. It is still used today to serve the presidential table at the Elysée Palace.
