STEJSKAL (Karel) — Emperor Charles IV. Art in 14th-Century Europe Paris, Gründ, n.d. [20th century]. Substantial in-4 volume, publisher’s binding with a color-illustrated dust jacket. Text by Karel Stejskal, photographs by Karel Neubert. Very abundant illustrations in black-and-white and color, often full-page. A major monograph devoted to Charles IV (1316–1378) and the artistic flourishing in Europe during his reign. The work focuses in particular on architecture, sculpture, painting, illumination, and the fine arts in the Holy Roman Empire and Central Europe during the 14th century. Rich iconographic documentation focusing in particular on Prague and Bohemia, major religious complexes, illuminated manuscripts, murals, altarpieces, and Gothic sculptures. Some scuffing, small tears, and wear along the edges of the dust jacket, particularly at the top and corners; interior appears to be in good condition.
