Jacques Callot, 1592–1635. - Lot 149
Jacques Callot, 1592–1635. Nancy, Musée historique lorrain – Réunion des Musées Nationaux, 1992. Large quarto, publisher’s cardboard binding with an illustrated dust jacket. An important catalog published in conjunction with the exhibition held at the Lorraine Historical Museum in Nancy from June 13 to September 14, 1992, to mark the fourth centenary of Jacques Callot’s birth. This collective work offers a particularly comprehensive study of the Lorraine engraver and draftsman’s oeuvre: his training, his time in Florence, his drawings and preparatory studies, major engraved series, *Caprices*, *Bohémiens*, *Misères de la guerre*, scenes of everyday life, and depictions of beggars. Includes, notably, an essay by Paulette Choné, “Boldness, Melancholy: Retouching a Portrait.” Extensive iconography featuring several hundred prints and approximately 250 drawings, abundantly reproduced in black-and-white and color. Detailed catalog of the exhibited works, including dimensions and bibliographic references. A fine copy. Some slight signs of wear on the dust jacket.
