JACQUES CALLOT - Lot 148
JACQUES CALLOT CAFFIER (Michel). The World of Jacques Callot. Paris, Henri Scrépel, “Les Carnets de Dessins” series, [circa 1980]. Large square quarto, publisher’s cardboard binding with illustrated dust jacket. Numerous reproductions of drawings by Jacques Callot, in black and white and in color. A volume in the “Les Carnets de Dessins” series, established and edited by Henri Scrépel as part of the Cabinet de Dessin. In it, Michel Caffier presents Callot’s graphic world through his studies of figures, scenes of everyday life, soldiers, Gypsies, and preparatory compositions. Notably included is a reproduction of *The Gypsies*, in black chalk and bistre wash, held at the Royal Institute of Cornwall in Truro. An interesting collection highlighting a more spontaneous and intimate aspect of Callot’s work, alongside his engravings. A fine copy; minor signs of wear on the dust jacket.
