A monograph on Nicolas Poussin (1594–1665) by art historian Walter Friedlaender, one of the leading experts on the painter. The book examines the evolution of his work, his ancient and Italian sources, his religious and mythological compositions, as well as his drawings. Abundant black-and-white and color illustrations, including numerous full-page reproductions, notably *Echo and Narcissus*, *The Death of Germanicus*, and several drawings held at the Louvre. Well-preserved copy; a few scuffs and small marks on the dust jacket.
