COMBE (Jacques). Hieronymus Bosch. - Lot 69
COMBE (Jacques). Hieronymus Bosch. [Paris], Éditions Pierre Tisné, Prométhée Collection, [circa 1946–1950]. In-4, publisher’s hardcover with illustrated dust jacket. A monograph by Jacques Combe devoted to Hieronymus Bosch, published in the “Collection Prométhée” under the direction of René Huyghe and Germain Bazin, then curators in the Department of Paintings at the Louvre Museum. A richly illustrated study tracing Bosch’s training and artistic development, his fantastical and religious world, and the major works of his mature period. Numerous black-and-white reproductions and several color plates, either mounted or inserted separately, particularly those related to *The Carrying of the Cross*. A beautiful volume characteristic of the great postwar French art monographs. Dust jacket preserved but damaged: tears, small losses, and wear on the top and bottom flaps and along the edges; interior in good condition.
