A monograph by art historian Otto Benesch devoted to German Renaissance painting, from Albrecht Dürer to Hans Holbein. The author examines the major German artistic centers and their evolution at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, notably Dürer, Altdorfer, Cranach, the Danube painters, and the Holbeins. A significant chapter is devoted to the renewal of German portraiture during the Renaissance. Extensive iconography, including numerous color reproductions, several of which are full-page. Printed in Switzerland. Dust jacket slightly rubbed with minor imperfections and marginal tears; interior in good condition.
