BENESCH (Otto) — German Painting: From Dürer to Holbein Geneva, Skira, 1966. Large quarto, publisher’s binding in red cloth. Approximately 200 pp., lavishly illustrated in color. An important monograph by Otto Benesch (1896–1964) devoted to German Renaissance painting, from Dürer to Holbein, with a study of the evolution of Germanic painting in the 15th and 16th centuries and its principal representatives. Extensive color illustrations, including numerous full-page reproductions by Dürer, Grünewald, Holbein, Strigel, and the leading German masters of the period. Bibliography and index.
