Li Yu — Jeou-P'ou-T'ouan, or Flesh as a Prayer Rug — Pauvert - Lot 169
Li Yu — Jeou-P'ou-T'ouan, or Flesh as a Prayer Rug — Pauvert, 1963 LI YU. Jeou-P'ou-T'ouan, or Flesh as a Prayer Rug. Novel published around 1640, translated into French for the first time by Pierre Klossowski, with a preface by René Étiemble. Paris, Jean-Jacques Pauvert, 1963. Large 8vo, paperback, white cover with large black Chinese characters, spine printed in red. The “printed” date allows for very precise identification: this is the third edition, printed on December 30, 1963, with a print run of 2,000 copies, all numbered. Copy: No. 1045/2000. Its bibliophilic appeal stems primarily from the collaboration between Li Yu, Klossowski, Étiemble, and Pauvert, as well as from the beautiful Sino-French typographic design. However, this is not the first French edition. Very good apparent condition: clean cover, spine in excellent condition, clean interior, untrimmed copy. Only minor marks and slight handling marks.
