Franz Kafka — Diary, Grasset, 1955 KAFKA (Franz). Diary. Translated and introduced by Marthe Robert. Paris, Bernard Grasset, 1955. A substantial in-8 paperback volume with an orange cover featuring a photographic portrait of Kafka, containing the complete text of the Diary from 1910 to 1923. The colophon reads: “this edition (2nd printing),” October 21, 1955, printed by La Semeuse in Étampes, legal deposit 4th quarter 1954. This is therefore indeed a second printing of the French edition, and not the first printing. Copy preserved in its original illustrated cover. Interior uniformly yellowed but sound. Notable defect: upper part of the spine torn off with a gap; endpapers and spine brittle; cover rubbed and with minor soiling. The price printed on the back cover is 1,350 francs.
