A volume devoted to Eastern civilizations and cultures, featuring, in particular, discussions on Persian antiquities, cuneiform inscriptions and alphabets, and India and its traditions. Contemporary binding in brown half-shagreen with corner caps, ribbed spine, black title label, and marbled paper covers. Binding is somewhat rubbed, particularly along the ribs, cap ends, and corners. Paper is uniformly browned with some foxing. Its value lies primarily in its documentary and historical significance; the market for this work by Ampère is fairly limited unless the copy is exceptional, has notable provenance, or features a remarkable binding.
