3rd ALGERIAN INFANTRY DIVISION. — Guest Book of the 3rd Algerian Infantry Division. Freiburg im Breisgau, National Printing Office, [1948]. Quarto, approximately 230 pp., numerous reproductions of documents, maps, and plans, several large fold-out color maps; period half-leather binding with corner pieces, marbled paper covers, spine inscribed in gilt letters. An important commemorative work dedicated to the 3rd Algerian Infantry Division, chronicling its campaigns from Italy to Germany: the Garigliano, the landing in Provence, Toulon and Marseille, the Vosges and Alsace, the crossing of the Rhine, and the march on Stuttgart. The documentary illustrations include, in particular, several large fold-out color maps, including those of the Battle of Toulon-Marseille (August 19–28, 1944) and the 3rd Algerian Infantry Division’s battle for Stuttgart (April 16–22, 1945), as well as numerous reproduced orders of the day and military documents. This copy is enhanced by an unidentified autographed inscription, dated Stuttgart, July 1, 1949: “To the officers of the 3rd D.I.A., in memory of the unforgettable epic, from the Garigliano to the Neckar. Stuttgart, July 1, 1949.” Signature to be identified. Binding is heavily worn, with damaged caps, significant rubbing, and scuffing on the covers and spine; interior is in generally good condition. The fold-out maps appear to be well preserved.
