[JAYBERT (Léon)] — LE NATUR. Three Decades of Gallic Tales. Illustrations by Le Natur. Paris, Édouard Rouveyre, publisher, “Écrin du Bibliophile,” 1882. Small 8vo, paperback, color-illustrated cover, 260 pp. and [3] ff., untrimmed. A new illustrated edition of this collection of tales in verse by Léon Jaybert, first published in 1862 by Poulet-Malassis. The 1882 edition was published anonymously by Édouard Rouveyre and illustrated by Le Natur. Attribution to Léon Jaybert is confirmed by bibliographic references and specialized catalogs. The illustrations include an etched frontispiece, as well as numerous black-and-white compositions and vignettes within the text. Attractive color-illustrated cover, characteristic of Rouveyre’s bibliophile editions. A bibliographic description of the work lists 260 pages, an etched frontispiece, full-page illustrations, and vignettes within the text. A single, definitive print run limited to 500 copies, bearing the notation “This work will not be reprinted”: 50 copies on Japanese paper, numbered 1 through 50, and 450 copies on laid paper, numbered 51 through 500. One of the 450 copies on laid paper, this one being No. 330. Copy preserved in paperback, in its original illustrated cover. Cover and spine are faded and soiled; the spine is rubbed with small losses and wear at the head and foot, and the edges and corners are worn. Scattered foxing and stains, more pronounced on certain leaves and on the title page. The interior, however, is complete and remains in its original condition.
