GROUSSET (René) - Lot 143
GROUSSET (René) The Art of the Far East. Landscapes—Flowers—Animals. 15 color plates based on paintings by the old Chinese and Japanese masters. Paris, Librairie Plon, “Iris” Collection, 1936. Folio (approx. 35 × 26 cm), paperback with illustrated, embossed cover. 10 pp. of text and 15 color plates. First edition. A beautiful publication devoted to classical Chinese and Japanese painting, accompanied by a text by René Grousset (1885–1952), then curator of the Cernuschi Museum. The book is organized around three major traditional themes in Far Eastern painting: landscapes, flowers, and animals. The 15 large color plates, reproducing works by ancient Chinese and Japanese masters, form the core of this elegant publication from the “Iris” collection. The book is currently listed in the collections of the Cernuschi Museum. A complete copy with all 15 plates. The cover is slightly faded and shows a few small marks and marginal creases; there is a slight crease at the upper right corner. A small red collector’s stamp on the title page. The interior is clean, and the plates are well-preserved.
