A fine overview of the arts of the pre-Columbian civilizations of the Americas, by the Americanist Raoul d’Harcourt, a specialist in particular in the ancient cultures of Peru. Published in the “Arts du Monde” series, edited by Georges de Miré, the book examines the major artistic expressions of Mexico, Central America, and the Andean region: architecture, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, and decorative arts. Extensive photographic illustrations by Emmanuel Sougez at the Musée de l’Homme, including approximately 160 black-and-white and color plates: Aztec deities and sculptures, Maya art, pre-Columbian ceramics, works from ancient Peru, etc. Original dust jacket retained, in very poor condition, with significant tears and missing sections, scuffing, and old adhesive repairs. Hardcover in good condition; some foxing on the inside.
